Profile:
I studied Law at the University of East Anglia from 2019 to 2022. Despite quite enjoying the subject, I never felt particularly drawn to becoming a lawyer. Instead, I explored a range of experiences through work and internships in areas such as marketing and teaching, which helped me develop a broader skill set and perspective.
After university, I decided to apply for a few vacation schemes, more out of curiosity than expectation. I had always assumed I wasn’t the “right fit” for a law firm, both in terms of personality and background. As I had attended a non-Russell Group university, I was worried that this might put me at a disadvantage when applying for training contracts. While the statistics do suggest some challenges, I found that success is very much possible with determination, luck and an open mind.
I started my training contract with RPC this year and am currently sitting in the Corporate team. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how approachable and supportive the senior members of staff are, and I’m really enjoying the variety of work we get involved in. My journey into law has been far from traditional, but I hope it shows that there are many paths into the profession, and that your background does not define your potential.
