My Law Firm

Profile:

My route into commercial law has been anything but typical. I went to a state school, left with fairly average GCSEs, and started out working in a mix of retail jobs before joining the Police at 21. I spent the next 13 years as a Detective, mainly investigating serious and complex crime, including homicides.

I had always been interested in the law, especially the professional, problem-solving side of it, but didn’t have the chance to explore that path earlier. Eventually, I decided to make a change. I studied for A-level equivalent qualifications in the evenings while working full-time and went on to study law at the London School of Economics. There, I built on my interest in the commercial world and drew on the transferable skills I had developed in policing, such as communication, resilience, and critical thinking. That combination helped me secure a training contract at Freshfields after taking part in the Aspiring Solicitors Freshfields START Scheme.

Working on high-stakes, international commercial disputes often means coming up with creative, first of-their-kind solutions. That’s why diversity in the legal sector really matters. The best results come from teams made up of people with different perspectives and life experiences.

Coming from an underrepresented background myself, I’m passionate about supporting others who might feel unsure, isolated, or like they don’t quite fit the mould. If that’s you, I want to help show that a career in commercial law is absolutely within reach.

If you have any questions about the commercial legal sector, my own experience of changing careers, or just want to talk something through, please feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to have a chat.
