Profile:
I did not achieve the best A level grades at sixth form but managed to secure a place on the Law course at Wolverhampton University. I was the first person in my family ever to go to University so the whole process was very new to us. While at University I developed a chronic condition which meant I struggled to attend university most days. However, I managed to persevere and obtained a high 2:1. From there I did my LPC with Masters at the University of Law. Half way through the year I was diagnosed with a second chronic illness (type 1 diabetes) which meant being off University for a few weeks while the condition was brought under control. I did not wish to defer, despite being recommended to do so, but instead worked hard to catch up. I managed to graduate with my LPC LLM as planned.
I then joined an Immigration High street firm which I knew almost immediately was not the area of law for me but I really valued the experience and insight it gave me. I remained with this firm for 3 months before moving on to Weightmans LLP. There I joined the personal injury team and spent over 4 years specialising in Abuse work. I really enjoyed my time at Weightmans but was very excited and grateful to be offered a Training Contract at DWF Law LLP.
I joined DWF Law LLP early before my TC commencement date as Lead Paralegal within their Insurance/Personal Injury team. I spent 9 months within this team working with amazing people and learning new areas of law before starting my Training Contract in September 2024 with the Real Estate Team.
I struggled with the stereotype of disabled people being a ‘nuisance’; and was always worried about how my condition would be perceived. As it is a ‘hidden’ disability I would hide it most of the time. However, I have found that everyone and every manager I have ever worked with have been nothing but supportive and the worries were only my own. Though my journey within law is not always easy it is made better by having an amazing supportive law firm.
