Profile:

I am a Trainee Solicitor at Charles Russell Speechlys, and have so far sat in our Construction, Engineering & Projects team and in the Real Estate Disputes team.

After completing a work placement at another city law firm whilst in college, I chose to study Law at university and pursue a career as a solicitor. My pathway into my training contract was fairly unique as majority of my work experience was from working in Mental Health law, with other brief work experience placements where I got an insight into commercial law.

Furthermore, it is well known that the legal profession is not the most ethnically diverse and I was discouraged by this fact when applying for training contracts, as I was afraid that I would be rejected because of my ethnicity. I was able to experience the open and diverse culture of Charles Russell Speechlys and I was delighted when the firm offered me a training contract after hearing about my varied experiences. It was clear that the firm was interested in my personality and how my life experiences have shaped the person I am today. It is great to see that the firm places emphasis on recruiting people from a variety of backgrounds.

I am passionate about increasing access to opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are thinking about pursuing a career in law or if you have any doubts about applying for training contracts.
