Profile:
I studied Geography with Economics at the LSE, initially unsure of the career path I wanted to follow. During my final year of university, I was fortunate enough to study abroad at UC Berkeley, where I developed an interest in law through my classes in Legal Studies, which inspired me to pursue a career as a solicitor.
When I returned to the UK, I began the PGDL and focused on gaining practical experience in the sector. Aspiring Solicitors was influential in this journey – I took part in the Aspire programme, which boosted my confidence when applying to firms and enabled me to build my network. I interned with Gowling WLG’s Planning and Environment practice area after winning the firm’s annual ESG essay competition. I went on to complete vacation schemes at Norton Rose Fulbright and Gowling WLG. Following these experiences, I was delighted to accept a training contract with Gowling WLG.
Before starting the SQE, I broadened my professional experience by spending a year on the Civil Service Fast Stream. I specialised in project management and resourcing at the Department for Work and Pensions, and learned to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Diversity is vital to the sector. Law is a profession that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences and is better equipped to serve clients and society when everyone’s voice is heard. I hope to support others in finding their place in the profession, just as I was supported along the way.
