My Law Firm

Profile:

I attended a state school / sixth form in a low socially economic area of Leeds. Throughout sixth form I worked in a suit shop in Leeds. I then attended the University of York through clearing to study Social Policy, Crime and Criminal Justice (as I did not have the necessary grades to study law). Throughout University, I continued to work in a suit shop. This job allowed me to meet legal professionals and expand my network. I also gained legal work experience by networking with customers. Following this, I studied the law conversion course (GDL). Whilst studying the GDL, I worked at a criminal law firm as an office assistant. During this time, I applied through BPP’s access scheme to Addleshaw Goddard LLP. I applied and was successful. As there was a year wait until the LPC started, I was offered a job at Eversheds International LLP in their Financial Services, Disputes and Investigations team. I then started the LPC and started my training contract at AG in September 2022. At AG, I did the following seats: (1) Corporate Banking and Finance, (2) Finance Disputes and (3) Commercial Disputes. I did not do a fourth seat as I used my time at Eversheds to qualify early. I qualified into the Finance Disputes team at AG in March 2024 and am now c.9 months qualified.

On a personal level, I felt an element of imposter syndrome throughout this journey. However, I was determined that this would not disadvantage me, and I looked to expand my network throughout university etc. Diversity in the legal profession reflects societal diversity, expands the talent pool and promotes equality. These ensure that everyone has equal access to the legal profession.
