Hi there! I am a future Trainee Associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, having completed a vacation scheme with the firm in 2022. I attended a state school in Coventry for both my GCSE and A Level studies, and went on to study Law (LLB) at University of Warwick. I have recently sat the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1&2) and am about to complete my Master of Law (LLM) studies at University of Law.

In my first year of university, I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career. I also started my studies during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made engaging with employers difficult. However, it was through attending virtual open days and job fairs that I was introduced to corporate law, and the role of a solicitor.

To explore further, I participated in various events to learn more about the law and the role of a corporate lawyer, including schemes organised by Aspiring Solicitors. However, I did not have any connections in the industry and knew I needed to prepare myself for law firm applications and interviews. I was also mindful of the barriers faced by those of different racial and socio-economic backgrounds, which affected my confidence.

I therefore applied to Weil’s ‘Black Mentoring Scheme’ delivered in collaboration with Aspiring Solicitors. I was able to build invaluable networks within the law, which helped prepare me for application season. I was also fortunate to gain industry experience in a big city firm which helped build my commercial awareness. The opportunity provided by Aspiring Solicitors was instrumental in shaping my journey, and ultimately helped me decide that Weil was the law firm for me!

As an aspiring solicitor, I found navigating the legal industry and developing my commercial awareness challenging. Mentors played a pivotal role in building my knowledge and self-belief, and this is why I am passionate about helping those who face similar challenges. Being an AS Mentor will allow me to provide an insight into the legal profession which I wish I had been given initially.
