Profile:
I’m a trainee solicitor at Baker McKenzie, currently in my second seat with the Corporate team, having completed six months in Banking. After securing my training contract, I also completed an internship in the firm’s Riyadh office before starting in the London office.
I went to a state school and studied law at a non-Russell Group university before securing my training contract. Coming from a non-Russell background meant I didn’t always have the support or guidance I needed for applications, and at times it was difficult to know how to approach the process. Like many aspiring solicitors, I found it challenging to navigate everything from writing applications to preparing for interviews and building confidence – especially without a clear roadmap or people in the profession to turn to.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was developing commercial awareness – something that’s constantly spoken about but rarely explained in a way that feels practical or easy to grasp.
Those experiences made me determined to share what I have learned and support others who might be facing similar challenges. I want to help people break into law, whether that’s by demystifying the application process, offering tips for interviews, or simply building confidence to keep going in what can often feel like a daunting and competitive journey. I believe diversity is vital to the strength of the legal profession, and I hope that by mentoring I can help others from a range of backgrounds see that a career in commercial law is achievable.
