Can you tell us about your background and journey to the legal profession?

I am an international student of Indian origin, and was born and raised in the Middle East. The most significant challenge I faced was a lack of clarity around the recruitment process and best practices. It is very easy to be inundated with information and general tips that are not actionable, and therefore do not further your progress.

How has Aspiring Solicitors and our various programmes/initiatives helped you achieve your success?

I have actively engaged with a wide range of the AS’s programmes and initiatives, each of which has progressively broadened my understanding of the profession and the many routes into it.  In particular, having the opportunity to speak with professionals who come from international backgrounds similar to my own proved to be a genuinely formative experience, reinforcing both my ambitions and awareness about the industry.

What advice would you give to AS Members?

I would recommend applying for the work experience programmes, as they are a rewarding experience. I also found reaching out to AS Mentors extremely helpful in preparing for ACs. Make the most out of the various opportunities, including mock interviews, to set yourself up for success.
