Profile:

I studied Philosophy and Theology at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2020, before studying the PGDL at BPP University and the LPC at the University of Law.  I started my training contract with TLT LLP in September 2022 and am currently in my 3rd seat. My experience is that doing a non-law degree and having a variety of work experience that is not necessarily legal proved to be valuable when applying for training contracts.  Speaking confidently about my broad experience base allowed me to differentiate myself from my peers and secure a training contact.

When I was younger, I was worried that being gay would have a negative impact on my ability to access a top law firm and progress in my career.  However, while studying for my GDL, I worked for a public interest company named Queer Lawyers of Tomorrow where I learned to be proud of my identity and use my experience working in diversity and inclusion to my advantage.  Since joining TLT, I have learned that it is a firm, which embraces diversity and inclusion and values having employees from a wide range of backgrounds.  TLT have a strong system of networks, including an LGBTQ+ network, which does excellent work scrutinising the firm’s policies and publications, suggesting how these can be improved, and educating the firm about queer experiences. I have done a range of seats including Financial Services Litigation, Family and Construction.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions in relation to applications, securing a training contract or my experience as a trainee solicitor.
