Profile:

Hello everyone, my name is Marta!

My passion for the legal sector began in high school (I blame it on spending excessive hours watching legal TV dramas and Judge Judy). As I gained an interest in the profession, I chose subjects which were fitting to pursuing a career in law for example modern studies and history. Over the years my desire of becoming a solicitor grew and I decided to apply to study law at university. I graduated from the University of Dundee with an honours degree in Scots and English Law and received a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Strathclyde. I commenced my Traineeship with DWF in September 2022 and I currently work between the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices.

I migrated from Torun, Poland to a small town in Scotland called Annan with no knowledge of the English language. I was state school educated throughout the entirety of my studies and I am the first person in my family to attend university and obtain a degree. Growing up there were times when I felt the odds stacked up against me. However, I believed that law was the path for me and I was very determined to make it happen.

Throughout my university studies, I worked in retail to support myself and like many other students faced the difficulties of balancing extensive hours in the library alongside working.  Before starting my Traineeship, I had no practical exposure to the legal sector, no legal experience nor did I have any legal connections. I know how difficult it can be to secure legal opportunities, especially a training contract.

Diversity is very important to me as a Polish woman from a working class background living in the UK. I believe it is important for businesses to have a diverse workforce with people from different backgrounds in order to be a successful business. A diverse team promotes a workforce of different skill sets, experiences, resources, and knowledge. I believe that it is vital for everyone no matter their background to have equal opportunities within the legal sector and that we see representation across the board in the legal industry.

I understand that all of us come from different backgrounds and each of us has different personal circumstances which may affect our career path. As a mentor I want to inspire aspiring solicitors to pursue a legal career regardless of their background and I am here to offer my support and answer any questions based on my own personal experiences.

Please feel free to get in touch!
