I am a Trainee Solicitor at RPC in my fourth seat and currently on secondment working for a national newspaper.
I studied law at City, University of London and graduated with a First (top 3 in my year). In my final year at City, I was offered a summer scheme at RPC where I spent two weeks working at the firm and was offered a training contract at the end of it. I then studied the LPC at BPP Law School and achieved a Distinction.
Before starting my training contract, I worked as the firm’s Outdoor Clerk for a year which gave me the opportunity to work with the majority of people at RPC and taught me invaluable lessons about litigation. I then went onto to do my first seat in Commercial Disputes, my second in Property & Casualty Insurance and my third in Media litigation before going on secondment to a client.
Having been through the process not too long ago, I know how difficult it is to stay motivated when applying for summer schemes and training contracts, especially when you think you look, feel or sound different to most other lawyers in the room. I hope that through programmes like Aspiring Solicitors, people will understand the importance of diversity in the legal industry and more people from diverse backgrounds will feel encouraged to join the profession. If you’re ambitious, it’s yours for the taking!
