Law School Attended
Future trainee solicitor | Herbert Smith Freehills
- Low income family
- First generation to go to university
- Non-Law degree
I am a recent Chemistry graduate from University College London and am due to begin my training contract with Herbert Smith Freehills in 2022.
I began exploring a career in law in my second year of university when I realised a research-based career was not for me. I associated my passion for Chemistry to Intellectual Property (IP) law which similarly embodies novelty and invention. Navigating the legal sector was daunting for a STEM student, especially having no prior legal experience. Through Aspiring Solicitors, I attended events held in collaboration with a number of law firms for an in-depth insight into the wealth of opportunity offered by a career in commercial law. These events were crucial in consolidating why this career was for me as I discovered areas of law, in addition to IP, where I could hold onto my love for science, for example through the Life Sciences and Energy sectors.
Coming from a low-income family I have experienced difficult times at home but in turn used this as a motivation to encourage me to remain ambitious. At a diversity event held at Herbert Smith Freehills, in collaboration with Aspiring Solicitors, it was truly refreshing to hear a partner open up about their own background where the firm emphasised how irrespective of your background you can make it. This message underpins what Aspiring Solicitors stand for and my interactions with this platform has inspired me to stay true to myself throughout my journey into a legal career and I believe that this approach has played an integral part in me securing a training contract. Champion who you are, we add value because of our differences!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions if you are seeking to embark on a legal career or are in an application process; I am incredibly happy to help.
