My diversity networks

Profile:

I qualified as a banking and finance solicitor with TLT in March 2015 and joined Taylor Wessing in September 2015. During my training contract I undertook seats in commercial real estate, banking litigation, banking & finance and restructuring & insolvency. Prior to starting my training contract, I studied law at Bristol University and completed my legal practice course at BPP. Having no personal or familial contacts in law or finance I had to make speculative applications and hand out CVs to try to get legal work experience and build my CV. Looking back, I know that I would have found it invaluable to have spoken to an Aspiring Solicitors ambassador when I was applying to law firm so I am keen to pass on my experience to current students and prospective trainees. I know that many of the applicants to City law firms will have contacts within or connections to the legal profession but law firms just want the best candidates so coming from a normal state school background should not be an impediment to getting a training contract at a top firm. Knowing how daunting the application process can seem, I want to be able to use my experience to help candidates with similar backgrounds to break into the profession.
