Profile:

As a state-school educated, practicing Muslim, my journey into law has been defined by determination, self-belief, and a strong sense of purpose. I attended a low-performing secondary school where support for aspiring professionals was limited. Despite the challenges, I remained focused on achieving the best possible grades while actively seeking legal experience to stand out in a highly competitive field. I always felt that without both, law firms wouldn’t consider someone from my background – someone like me.

Recognising the value of practical exposure early on, I chose to complete a placement year during university at a leading legal aid firm in London. After graduating, I worked as a caseworker at another top legal aid London firm, where I developed a strong sense of justice and obtain valuable hands-on experience. This period also sparked my passion for volunteering and community support.

Driven by a desire to broaden my legal skillset and with an interest in commercial law, I made a pivotal move into commercial law, working as a Commercial Property Paralegal at a regional firm. This experience confirmed my interest in commercial practice, leading me to secure a training contract and ultimately qualify as a solicitor.

Throughout my journey, I have experienced first-hand the challenges faced by individuals from underrepresented backgrounds; whether it’s imposter syndrome, the absence of relatable role models, or the subtle pressure to conform. I’ve learned how to navigate these spaces authentically, build strong professional relationships, and grow without compromising my values.

I’m passionate about mentoring because I know how impactful guidance and representation can be. I want to offer encouragement, honest advice, and real-world insight to aspiring solicitors—especially those from backgrounds where a career in law can seem out of reach.
