Profile:
I am currently a Trainee Solicitor at Kennedys. I completed my A-levels at a state school and studied Law with International Relations at a non-Russell Group university.
Although I did not know anyone within the legal profession as a child, my interest developed gradually through wishful thinking at first then by attending participating in law competitions, career events, and through independent research. After graduating, I enrolled onto the LPC LLM without having secured a training contract. I continued applying throughout my studies and after several rejections, I was offered a training contract from Kennedys towards the end of the course.
My route into law hasn’t been linear. I didn’t secure training contract on my first attempt and worked other jobs (often unrelated to law), whilst pursuing a career in the legal profession. I remained consistent in gaining experience, improving my applications, and learning from setbacks. Networking and leveraging who you know was a foreign concept to me at the time. I also struggled to speak confidently about myself as I thought it may come across as ‘boasting’. It took time but with help from others I soon understood the power of curiosity and speaking comfortably about who you are. You don’t have to have it all or know it all.
I was raised to value self-belief and resilience. My has mother progressed in her own career despite starting from a low-income background and being an ethnic minority. Her example has shaped my approach to challenges.
I believe diversity across all professions, including law is necessary and of benefit to society, the work itself and the people.
If you are interested in hearing more about my route into law or have any questions about the application process and about being a trainee, please feel free to contact me.
