Profile:

I qualified from a regional firm in 1997 – having struggled to initially find a training contract. I then joined a large regional firm, and started what would be where I am now – supporting lawyers from regulatory or risk non-compliance. I now manage risk for our firm and I thoroughly enjoy it but it was a long road, with many hurdles to overcome. Much of this was done by luck and this includes having supporters at important times. When I qualified, the firm I joined was entirely Oxbridge (apart from me, coming from a Polytechnic “new Uni”) and I was very aware of this. There was little to no diversity and I felt rather out of place. It is so important that talent is given every chance to shine and this is why I care about being inclusive – so that everyone is valued as an equal.
