Profile:

I am a solicitor in Pinsent Masons’ Construction Advisory and Disputes team based in our Glasgow office.

I completed my undergraduate law degree at the University of Dundee before coming back to Glasgow to study the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde. After completing countless application forms and undertaking two vacation placement schemes, I was delighted to accept a traineeship with Pinsent Masons. I appreciate that the application process can be gruelling, and can often feel like the time and effort you put into an application is overlooked, but my advice is this: keep going – you will find the firm that is the right fit for you!

I hadn’t secured a traineeship until after I completed my Diploma so I had a year between studying and starting my traineeship (which was reduced from two years due to an unexpectantly available slot). During that “break”, I worked as an assistant paralegal with Pinsent Masons’ Property team for part of the year and enjoyed some travelling too.

During my traineeship, I completed seats in (i) Litigation (ii) Employment & Rewards (iii) Construction and Engineering and (iv) Construction Advisory and Disputes, before qualifying into the Construction Advisory and Disputes team in September 2020. Now, my day-to-day job includes advising and resolving disputes (through litigation and other forms of dispute resolution such as adjudication, arbitration and mediation) for some of the UK’s biggest contractors. Diversity and inclusion is about presenting equal opportunities to everyone. Having conversations through Aspiring Solicitors can help present those opportunities to those who otherwise may not be starting on a level playing field. I’d be more than happy to speak with anyone who would like to have a conversation about starting out their legal career.
