Profile:

I studied English Literature and Music at the University of Leeds, a degree which I loved, and which allowed me to explore my interest in law through a range of different academic perspectives. It was in my second year as an undergraduate that I really started to think seriously about pursuing a legal career, and in which I set about gaining a diverse range of legal work experience, building upon my skills, and widening my legal network. One of the most valuable roles that I took on during this time was with Citizens Advice where I spent a year volunteering weekly alongside my studies. Developing in a legal advice role over an extended period of time really helped me build the confidence I needed with my applications, especially as a non-law student.

I initially found the task of selecting firms daunting, and struggled to identify exactly where I could see myself working. Attending open days and talks by firms helped me to get a clearer picture of where I should be applying, and I soon realised that these presented an amazing opportunity to build a small personal network, something which I found extremely important as I had no pre-existing connections with anyone in the legal profession. Becoming involved with Aspiring Solicitors provided me with an unparalleled amount of support, advice and motivation, pushing me out of my comfort zone to make sure I could tackle any challenge thrown at me. I owe the organisation a great deal, not only in helping me secure multiple vacation schemes, but in ensuring that I was well prepared to excel in them.
Having benefited so much myself from the encouragement and support of others, I would be delighted to speak to anyone that might benefit from hearing about my own experience.
