Profile:

I am a solicitor in the Commercial team at Womble Bond Dickinson with a focus on general commercial, technology and privacy.  I qualified in 2021 and previously worked as a paralegal with the firm before commencing my training contract.  I am a non-Russell Group graduate and the first person in my family to become a lawyer.

I grew up in a small town outside of Newcastle and went to a comprehensive state school where I sat my GCSEs and A Levels.  I had never considered a career in law until I was deciding what to study at University.  I was able to secure work experience at a high street firm and decided that law was for me.  Whilst I had no contacts in the legal profession, I continued to volunteer at a local legal charity whilst studying until I graduated.  I applied for a paralegal role at Womble Bond Dickinson and haven’t looked back since.

The profession sometimes has a bit of a reputation for being a bit intimidating, exclusive and having to be “a certain way.”  I always had a fear whilst at University that having an accent would mean that I wouldn’t fit in with the “brand” of a commercial law firm.  My experience of working at Womble Bond Dickinson has been quite the opposite, the different backgrounds and variety of life experience means that we all bring a unique perspective to our jobs and in turn we all continue to develop and thrive.
