BPP university alumni

Profile:

I graduated from the University of Bristol with a French degree and started my training contract at Taylor Vinters in September 2018. After graduating, I moved to Paris to teach English and upon returning to London, I worked in-house as a contracts assistant in the legal department of a media company. I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in commercial law, so I used my earnings to self-fund the GDL.

Between the GDL and being offered a training contract, I volunteered at the Citizens Advice Bureau, paralegaled for six months and completed vacation schemes, which led to being offered a training contract. Although not all of my work experience was based in private practice or even in law, working in-house helped me identify how commercial organisations operate on a day-to-day basis and learn what is important to clients. I also developed transferable skills through my French degree, teaching and volunteering.

I got in touch with Aspiring Solicitors (AS) shortly after applying for summer vacation schemes. I attended a ‘Springboard into a TC’ event and found it so helpful in demystifying the vacation scheme and interview process. It taught me that there was no singular ideal candidate and that I should relax (a little!) and show my personality during the vacation scheme or in interviews.

I qualified in September 2020 and am now a 2PQE associate in the Tax and Wealth Planning team at Mishcon de Reya where I provide advice on a range of taxation, trust issues, lifetime planning and estate planning for domestic and international clients. I advise a range of individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and corporate entities, as well as trustees and foreign advisers. I also advise on tax residence and domicile issues, including UK pre-arrival and pre-departure planning.

Having been through the whole process, I am happy to help anyone who wants advice or a nudge in the right direction, whether it be about keeping motivated, applications, online tests, interviews or internships!
