I studied Politics and International Studies at Warwick University for my undergraduate degree. I always had an inkling that I would enjoy a career in law, but I found the academic study of Politics to be really engaging.
After finishing my degree I applied for a summer scheme at Travers Smith. I made my application to a list of smaller city firms which were renowned for their strong individual practices and strong focus on trainee development.
During the Summer Scheme I was very impressed by the open culture at Travers. Many people use the word “collegiate” to describe the firm, and I began to understand what they meant after spending 2 weeks in the office. Sharing a room with 2 associates and a partner has given me a unique perspective on how solicitors of differing seniority deal with their day to day tasks. This was a great learning experience. The firm has a real mix of personalities, however there is a common theme of everyone striving to do their best for the joint goal of delivering the best service to the client and looking out for the team.
As I write this, I am currently in my first seat in Private Equity, soon to move on to Real Estate for my second seat.
