Dechert LLP is a dynamic international law firm with 900+ lawyers across 27 offices in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. London is our third largest office, after Philadelphia and New York. Our lawyers in London are active in all Dechert’s core practice areas of corporate and securities, financial services and investment management, finance and real estate, white-collar defence, complex commercial litigation and international arbitration, amongst others. Our trainees complete six seats of four months each, choosing from Corporate & Securities, Finance, Real Estate, Financial Services, IP, and Trial Investigations & Securities (combining complex commercial litigation, employment and white collar defence). We believe the six-seat system gives the best possible opportunity to experience a wide range of practice areas, and to learn quickly. Every new seat is discussed with trainees, and will reflect their interests and ambitions, and allows opportunity for secondments to other Dechert offices and clients. Resultantly, no two trainees have the same training contract.
We recruit all our trainee solicitors via our two vacation schemes (spring and summer) and our work experience week with the Aspiring Solicitors’ Commercial Awareness Competition Finalists only; we do not recruit directly for training contracts. Each vacation scheme has ten places, and we recruit approximately ten trainees per year. We encourage all those who are interested in applying for a vacation scheme with us to attend an Open Day with Aspiring Solicitors to learn more about the firm.
Dechert has partnered with Aspiring Solicitors since 2017 and has recruited nine Aspiring Solicitors’ members as trainees since the partnership began. Other partnerships include implementation of the Rare CRS and an open day with The Law Collective. Internally, the London office has an active Inclusion & Diversity Committee and the firm has several affinity groups, an LGBT Allies Programme, the Global Women’s Initiative and supports Inspiring Girls International, all of which are active in London. The firm has a number of Mental Health Champions and First Aiders in the London office.
