I joined Aspiring Solicitors in October 2014 after deciding that a new approach was needed to secure a training contract. The pursuit for the highly coveted training contract was increasingly becoming a hunt for gold dust. Whilst I have been very fortunate to attend a number of interviews and assessment days since I started applying for vacation schemes and training contracts in my second year of undergraduate study, I only secured vacation schemes after my involvement with Aspiring Solicitors.
I attended two events at international law firms organised by Aspiring Solicitors. Both events emphasised the need to have a clear strategy before making applications for vacation schemes and training contracts. My participation with Aspiring Solicitors equipped me with the insight and knowledge on how to make my applications stand out by identifying precisely why my strengths and attributes made me ideally suited to a given law firm. It is not as challenging as it seems to submit a unique application to a select group of firms when you know what you want and why you want it.
I would strongly recommend that all members engage with Aspiring Solicitors at the earliest opportunity and encourage their friends to do the same. I would have loved to have known about Aspiring Solicitors in my first year of undergraduate study when I was attending the limited number of open days available for first year law students. I would have gone into my second year liaising with Chris and the team on my strategy for making vacation scheme applications and preparation for the intensive assessment centres.
A huge thanks to Chris and the team who helped put me in my position where I received three vacation scheme offers over the summer of 2015. I am delighted to be joining Bristows LLP in September 2017
