The Global Foundation for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (EDV) is setting up a pioneering youth council in which young people can actively work to eliminate domestic violence. The EDV Youth Council is a platform where young people from all over London will undertake their own youth-led events and dynamic projects to help raise awareness and join the global fight against domestic violence. Getting young people involved in this critical public health issue is an essential aspect of the fight to end domestic violence since interpersonal violence is the leading cause of death in adolescents and young people worldwide (BMJ 2011) and 133 million children globally witness domestic violence (UN).
The Youth Council will be comprised of seven permanent executive members who are responsible for directing projects undertaken by the council and sub-council teams. All members will work together to research, help fund and implement new, innovative and effective youth-led projects. The EDV Youth Council meetings will be held once a month in locations such as the House of Lords and the University of Westminster, truly brilliant venues to initiate pivotal change.
