Why does diversity and inclusion matter to Oxford Law Society?
Oxford Law Society values the diversity of its members and has implemented new initiatives to provide a platform for leading law firms to access students who are underrepresented in the legal profession.
The Society strongly believes that changes need to be made to create equal opportunities and best represent the changing profile and client base of the legal profession.
This May, President (Ail Qureshi) and Vice-President (Maddy Hayes), have introduced a ‘Diversity Week’. During the Week, organisations such as Aspiring Solicitors, SEO and Bright Network, as well as leading firms Norton Rose Fulbright and Reed Smith, will be hosting presentations and workshops aimed at demystifying working life in the city, raising students’ aspirations. The Society has also partnered with Oxford Women in Business to host a speaker event with Funke Abimbola MBE.
It is anticipated that Diversity Week and inter-society collaborations will be repeated in future terms.
