ELSA Westminster

Why is D&I important to your Law Society?

D&I is important to ELSA Westminster because inclusive spaces are a necessary foundation for interacting with others in productive and meaningful ways.
Diversity and Inclusion are founding principles of our network but there is always a risk of complacency. It is easy to accept that things have already improved without recognising our own biases in this perception; this is why we keep challenging ourselves to do better.

Highlights of ways that your Law Society has tried to increase diversity

We changed our recruiting message to make sure students know that we are not just for European students.

We focused on partnering up with societies that are diverse to ensure we attract every great legal mind on campus.

We found diverse speakers for our events and gave them our platform.
Each month we chose an issue concerning a marginalised group to raise awareness on and educate ourselves about.

It is important to embrace diversity to become a platform for innovation, creativity and to welcome a variety of perspectives to ensure our members enjoy a safe space to be their best selves.
We aim to build people from the inside out and foster an environment that is comfortable and supportive where people from all walks of lives can flourish together.
