Why is D&I important to your Law Society?
The Commercial Awareness Society (CAS) believes that diversity and inclusion create a positive environment that encourages students to get involved and excel. As students we understand the difficulties of adapting, but by reaching out and supporting students, we know we are paving the way for a much more dynamic future.
Often, students underestimate their ability to attain the career they want, but with our determination to protect and promote diversity, our aim is that this issue will be eradicated.
Highlights of ways that your Law Society has tried to increase diversity
Throughout the year we have been running, our society has ensured that students are able to resonate with our speakers. In particular, when we hosted Aspiring Solicitors, we ensured our members were able to get the very best advice, regardless of their degree.
We have worked with other diversity programmes to help our members find out more information about becoming a solicitor in the City.
Equality and Diversity Advisor for Coventry University Commercial Awareness Society, 2019-2020
Our society places a huge effort on ensuring that events are inclusive for everybody. This effort is shown in our events where we often have speakers who come from different backgrounds which reflects the audience. It is very powerful when they share their experiences and how they have managed to progress so far in the legal industry. Having a diverse committee means that we are able to reach out and connect with a lot of people from various backgrounds and groups. We enjoy knowing that members feel more at ease knowing that there are people they can relate to and who can share their experiences with.

Founding President of Coventry University Commercial Awareness Society, 2019-2020
Our society is dedicated to ensuring that students understand that their adversity can be turned into their strength. We consistently promote resources that provide opportunities for underrepresented backgrounds, whether through our newsletter or weekly workshops. Our society wants students to believe that any obstacles in life will always be defeated.
