Why is D&I important to your Law Society?
As the main legal society on campus, we are committed to providing our students with a range of opportunities which cater to our diverse student body. We want to demonstrate that the legal profession is open, accepting and ever evolving where diversity can add immense value through the knowledge and understanding that diverse individuals bring to our profession.
Highlights of ways that your Law Society has tried to increase diversity
Our Law Society invites speakers with distinguished legal careers to attend our talks and panel discussions to inspire and inform our students about the legal profession. One of our highlights was hearing from Baroness Hale of Richmond. We hope that with a diverse range of speakers we can show our students that diversity is valued and can be an asset in the profession.
We also hold events focused on the various options available to our members for funding their education and path to qualification. This is so that they are aware of all the opportunities available and to ensure financial restrictions do not hinder their career progression.
Diversity is also reflected in our in our society committee. We encourage involvement from all diverse individuals.
We also work with a variety of organisations who encourage diversity to inform our students of the opportunities and events open to them.
