Profile:

Diversity is evolving as one of the top priorities within many workplaces. Talented individuals emanate from extremely different backgrounds and should not be prohibited from achieving their goals due to their circumstances. People from different backgrounds will often have different perspectives which will evidently give a far more rounded and well supported view on current issues.

I attended university in Wales and unfortunately, due to a very close friend contracting meningitis and passing away, missed my second year. I obtained a second class honours degree nonetheless. I studied a postgraduate diploma in law at the University of Westminster following my degree, which dealt with the differences between the roles of a barrister and a solicitor. I had thought that my strong Welsh accent would hinder my chances at the bar. Subsequently, I realised a large proportion of the bar is indeed Welsh and, my accent actually worked in my favour. I worked at Eversheds for eight months prior to commencing the LPC, and was put in charge of a team of mortgage clerks. I subsequently moved to London where I began my training contract in the firm in which I had carried out my criminal defence work placement, as part of my postgraduate diploma in law. As the firm was a specialist criminal defence law firm, I had to carry out non-contentious seats to satisfy all elements of my training contract. I moved to a firm on secondment for six months to do seats in both commercial and residential property. I was asked to transfer my training contract and join the firm as an assistant on qualification, which I did. I am now a senior associate at Penningtons Manches LLP having worked at a West End and another City law firm.
