Profile:

I come from a small town in the countryside and studied at my local comprehensive, so when I first received my offer from Farrers, I struggled to believe my ears – it felt like I was entering a whole different world. However, I am now a second-year trainee here, and I love my job – I get to work with fascinating clients every day, and I am surrounded by a team of supportive, intelligent and hard-working people. There are people here from all different walks of life, and I settled in and felt at home here much quicker than I expected.

I believe people seriously underrate how daunting it is to start applying for training contracts when none of the people you grew up with have followed that path, and you don’t have contacts to rely on. Nevertheless, the key thing I have learned on my journey through law is that coming from an underrepresented background is not your weakness, it is your strength. The unique experiences you have had, the hard work you have had to put in, the ambition that has driven you to put yourself forward – these are all things that should give you even more confidence when you make applications.

Let me know how I can support you – I know the jargon can be overwhelming (‘commercial awareness’ is a great example) so I hope I can cast some light on how to navigate this process.
