Profile:
I am a trainee solicitor at Freshfields. Before joining the firm in February 2020, I studied Russian and French at University College London.
For me, diversity is all about championing the differences between people – this is exactly what Aspiring Solicitors (AS) is all about! It’s an organisation that favours a meritocratic approach, and enables every candidate to reach his or her potential.
I joined AS in the second year of my degree. As someone who had few connections to the legal world, I thoroughly recommend making the most of all the open days, interview preparation and other workshops which AS offers; they will prove invaluable when making those all-important applications!
1) Apply to 6-10 firms that you really want to work for!
2) Personally, I listen to the Economist Morning Briefing and the FT News Briefing (both podcasts); they analyse the day’s key business news clearly and concisely
3) Proofread your application and get a friend/family member/careers adviser to proofread it too. Make sure you give it to someone who has very, very good grammar and an eye for detail, as the graduate recruitment team at the firms you apply to certainly will!
Please feel free to message me, particularly if you are thinking about applying to Ashurst or Freshfields (where I did my vacation schemes). Nevertheless, I am happy to provide constructive feedback or just general hints and tips for any application or interview!
