Profile:

I am an Associate Family Law Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell based between London and Leeds. I am also a gay working-class Geordie who is the first generation in my family to attend university. I was extremely fortunate to study my LL.B at the University of York, a leading law school and part of the prestigious Russell Group Universities.

When I was 20 years old I was a Seoul National University Scholar and attended the International Summer Institute in Seoul, South Korea, for 2 months studying philosophy and international politics. Upon completing my law degree I was awarded the 50th anniversary scholar of law at the University of York. This funded my LL.M in international human rights law. I focused on LGBT human rights issues and ad hoc lectured undergraduate legal theory. I then studied the LPC, with the support of Irwin Mitchell, in Leeds whilst doing LGBT+ asylum law pro bono. These were special opportunities and I am indebted to those who supported and encouraged me at that time.

During my years in practice I have been published in leading law journals, the national press and on radio in relation to LGBT+ family law issues and human rights law. I currently sit on the Law Society LGBT+ National Committee in London. I also sit as an undergraduate interview admissions tutor at the University of York. The law is a fast paced and extremely demanding profession. It is also hugely rewarding and a privilege to now be able to pursue the diversity and inclusion agenda for others and encourage talented people from a wide variety of backgrounds to become part of the profession. I am passionate about the diversity agenda and making sure that the profession is more open, meritocratic and genuinely diverse. The law must reflect and be accessible to everyone.
