Law School Attended
Trainee Solicitor | Herbert Smith Freehills
- State School Educated
- Upper Limb Deficiency
- First Generation Lawyer
I am a recent History graduate and have secured a training contract with Herbert Smith Freehills, starting in 2019.
Growing up in York I attended some fairly good state schools, but I achieved only mediocre A-Level results. However, I was accepted into Queen’s University Belfast, and (determined to get more impressive results) achieved a First Class degree.
Whilst at QUB I felt as though I was not being offered adequate training contract application guidance, and as a History student I struggled to be accepted onto Law networking programmes. With few legal connections of my own, I started to pro-actively build up my own network of knowledgeable people willing to help me. And this is where Aspiring Solicitors was invaluable.
I attended dozens of AS open days and workshops, I messaged numerous AS Ambassadors and spent hours on the phone with Gemma who showed me how to improve my applications. I even entered the first QUB teams into the commercial awareness competition. All this gave me the skills and confidence to attend assessment centres, complete vacation schemes with Baker McKenzie and HSF, and ultimately accept a training contract offer from the latter.
As AS helped me so much, I am delighted to be an AS Professional Ambassador. If you feel I can be of help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
