I studied Law with French at the University of Leicester and began applying for work experience in the first year of my degree. I didn’t really know much about law firms and so absorbed as much information as I could from online resources. During my final year, I met a previous student from Leicester who was completing her training contract at RPC. She encouraged me to consider applying and shortly after graduating, I did a two week summer scheme which included a training contract assessment centre on the final day. After a brilliant two weeks learning all about the firm, I was offered a place in the 2016 intake of trainees. I decided to train at RPC because I think it offers the perfect combination of excellent work and opportunity for career progression in an environment in which you can truly be yourself and bring your whole self to work.
In between accepting the offer and starting my training contract, I worked at the European Parliament in Brussels for nine months as an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament. Following this, I studied the Legal Practice Course with the other RPC future trainees.
During my training contract, I completed seats in Construction Insurance, Construction and Projects and Corporate. I spent my third seat on secondment to the firm’s Singapore office doing a broad range of insurance work and qualified in September 2018 as an Associate in the Construction Insurance team.
I believe that diversity is absolutely vital to ensuring the success of the legal profession in the modern world. A range of backgrounds and life experiences brings a variety of perspectives and viewpoints as to how problems can be resolved and opportunities created. Aspiration and hard work should always be more important than where you come from.
