I am a trainee solicitor at Stephenson Harwood. Having grown up in Hong Kong, I moved to the UK in 2016 to study at Durham University. I graduated with a law degree in 2019 and then completed the LPC at BPP University in London before beginning my training contract in September 2020.
As an international student, I developed an appreciation for different cultures at a young age, and I have come to value diversity in both work and life. I am a firm believer that diversity should be celebrated and that the legal profession should be accessible to everyone irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, or background. I also understand the challenges that come with moving countries, and the fact that such challenges can be overwhelming.
As a professional ambassador, I hope to share my experiences with the next generation of lawyers and pass on the knowledge I have accumulated as a trainee solicitor. Applying and securing a training contract can be challenging, and it can be extremely disheartening when you receive rejections. I found that talking to people who had already been through the process to be of great use as it allowed me to not only get an insight into the legal world but also to understand how to tailor my applications and better prepare for assessment centres.
