Profile:

I am a trainee solicitor at Taylor Wessing.

Although pursuing a career in the Law was a goal of mine from a fairly young age, it always felt more like an idealistic dream than a realistic prospect.

Along with the fact that none of my family were from a professional background, I often believed that the combination of being a black female, state-school educated, and attending a non-Russell group university were insurmountable barriers to my entering the legal profession.

I was fortunate enough to have Chris White visit my university to deliver a speech in my first year. He related his experience and conveyed the importance of recognising the value each individual’s journey could bring to the legal profession if we embraced opportunities when they presented themselves. For the first time, the hurdles felt slightly less insurmountable.

It was only with the support and guidance of AS and others who were considerate enough to assist me that I am in my position today, which is why it is invaluable to have access to advice and encouragement from individuals who have had similar challenges and concerns.

Diversity in the workplace is extremely important, not only because it is representative of equal opportunity, but it also gives us the chance to benefit from a wealth of unique backgrounds, experiences and values. So please make full use of the many opportunities AS offers, and feel free to get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.
