I left school not knowing what I wanted to be when I ‘grew up’. I had always loved languages, so studying French and Spanish at King’s College London was a no-brainer for me. I loved my degree and in my final year I began looking for a career that fit with the skills I had acquired during my degree. After attending careers fairs and speaking to careers advisers on campus, I realised that much of what I had learned during my degree would be applicable to a career in law; communication skills, analytical reading and an appetite for learning (I supposed people do say that the law is like another language!).
I began applying to law firms in the first term of my GDL. Travers immediately appealed to me because of its smaller intake size, high-profile clients and for its reputation for being a genuinely nice place to work. I applied for the winter vacation scheme and after a surprisingly enjoyable interview I was offered a place on the scheme. I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation scheme. I was left with the feeling that the people at Travers really wanted to get to know me – I was made to feel like I was already part of the team. I began my training contract in 2017 having spent 6 months as a paralegal in the finance department before travelling for another 6 months.
I am passionate about CSR and diversity and I can honestly say that the firm is committed to both of these areas. I am involved in numerous firm-lead CSR initiatives, something which has been actively encouraged during my time as a trainee. I am also an active member of the BAME group, which has been a great place to openly discuss how to continue to make Travers an exciting and diverse place to work.
