- Senior woman in law
I am a senior associate in the marine and international trade practice group at Stephenson Harwood. I specialise in dispute resolution with a focus on all types of dry shipping litigation matters. I have acted for clients in English Court proceedings, arbitrations and mediations.
I am a second-generation Chinese immigrant from a working-class background. My family moved from Hong Kong to London to make a better life for themselves. English was not their first language and they took on various jobs to make their living.
I am proud to have grown up on a council estate. I was educated at a state primary and secondary school, before joining a grammar school at sixth form. I worked part-time as a sales assistant when I was 16 years old and continued during my university degree. I had no connections to the legal industry and after a lot of challenges I was able to secure a training contract at a leading international law firm.
Helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds is a cause which is deeply personal to me as I know that students may face financial and other barriers. I am involved in Stephenson Harwood’s scholarship scheme which aims to improve diversity in law. I am also a trainee supervisor and I enjoy mentoring and coaching trainees.
Throughout my education and career, I have been given opportunities from people who believed in me. I believe that it is only right that I help talented people realise their full potential regardless of their background.
