Law School Attended
Associate | Bird & Bird
- State school educated
- First generation to go to university
- First generation lawyer
I attended my local comprehensive school in north London and was unsure of what I wanted from my future career, so I chose to study English and Related Literature at the University of York as this was something I had enjoyed at school. Neither of my parents had attended university and I was the first in my immediate family to do so.
I graduated in 2011 and at this point began considering a career in law. I worked as a waitress while gaining all of the ad hoc legal work experience I could before going travelling. When I came back, I worked as a paralegal at a high street firm for a couple of months before starting the GDL in 2012. I really enjoyed the legal work experience I had already done so on finishing the GDL I applied for more paralegal roles. I worked temporarily for the legal team of a television and film company, before working for two and a half years for a gaming company. During this time I began applying for training contracts. I found that my experience working for in house legal teams really assisted my understanding of the legal sector and made me think about legal issues a lot more commercially.
I was offered a place on the Bird & Bird summer vacation scheme in 2015, and was subsequently offered a training contract. I completed my LPC at BPP in 2016-2017 and started at the firm in September 2017.
I’ve really enjoyed my experience at Bird & Bird so far and would encourage anyone interested in a legal career to pursue it. I found my legal work experience invaluable, but I also really valued the advice of friends who were already in the profession. As the only lawyer in my family I understand that it can be hard to get in touch with people in the industry for advice if you don’t have any contacts. With that in mind, please get in touch if you have any questions as I am happy to help!
