Profile:
I am a future trainee solicitor at BCLP having completed the firm’s spring vacation scheme in April 2024. I read law at Lancaster University and completed my LLM LPC from BPP.
I grew up in South Africa for 16 years before moving to the UK to complete my education. Growing up, my interest in law was never particularly strong; I wanted to go to film school to become a director! However, it wasn’t until undertaking A-level Law that I realised just how fascinating it is as a discipline – permeating every transaction, dispute and relationship that we experience.
It was when I started my LLB that my interest in working in private practice as a commercial solicitor seriously developed. My time as president of the law society and legal counsel manager for an ENACTUS Lancaster project gave me great insight into project management, financial planning and leadership, and attending lots of virtual and in-person events (many with Aspiring Solicitors of course!) gave me the knowledge and confidence to apply for vacation schemes and training contracts. I was able to connect with BCLP several times through AS Ability and Race for Change, so I would recommend taking advantage of all the opportunities made available to you to gain further exposure to commercial law.
As the world continues to embrace globalisation, diversity has become more important than ever before. Not only do diverse teams and companies benefit from being societally representative, but a diversity of thought and experiences has profound advantages to modern problem-solving because of the need for innovation and fresh perspectives. Diversity is not a meaningless buzzword, but an integral principle that helps clients, creates value, and attracts and inspires future talent.
