Profile:

I am a trainee solicitor at Kennedys Scotland, in my final seat within the Liability Division. I am due to qualify in September 2022 and have accepted an NQ role within the same department.

I attended a state school in the Southside of Glasgow before continuing my studies at Glasgow Caledonian University and thereafter the University of Strathclyde. From a very young age, I always dreamed of becoming a lawyer however did not have any close contacts who could provide guidance on the process or family who attended university. Equally, I was unable to undertake any unpaid summer placements due to a heavy reliance on my part time job, which increased to full time hours during the summer.

I graduated in 2019, with little experience and without a Trainee contract in hand and against that background applied for numerous roles from adminstration, paralegal and trainee with little success. Eventually, I secured a role as a legal adminstrator in Kennedys which led to a training contract in 2020.

Having attended a state school and growing up in a single parent household, I appreciate the real disadvantages that underrepresented students face. Whilst it is harder for students from these communities due to a number of factors, it is my belief that if you are determined, hardworking, ambitious and have a good support system then you will achieve all that you desire. I am passionate about providing guidance and support to those who need it the most – support that I would have benefited greatly from.
