I am an associate in Dentons’ real estate team based in Edinburgh where I deal with a range of real estate work including commercial leasing and the acquisition / disposal of commercial property. I trained at Morton Fraser LLP and experienced a variety of seats before moving to Maclay Murray & Spens LLP (now Dentons) upon qualification as a solicitor to join their real estate team.
I attended a state school in rural south west Scotland before studying Scots law at the University of Dundee. I had no personal or family contacts who had attended university and so had little real idea about what the legal world involved. An opportunity to speak to an ambassador from Aspiring Solicitors back then would have really helped to demystify the process.
Obtaining a training contract was similarly difficult. I sought summer placements at a variety of firms from large commercial firms to local high street practitioners without any success. I instead spent summers working full time in different types of jobs and also did some volunteering and found that the transferable skills gained were a key aspect of my applications.
I want to be able to use my experience to help similar candidates and so please feel free to get in touch.
