Profile:
I graduated the University of Exeter with a 2:1 in Law in July 2019 and in September I started the LPC/Commercial Legal Practice LLM. I completed a Vacation Scheme at both Taylor Wessing and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner in Summer 2018 and subsequently secured Training Contract offers from both. I start my Training Contract at Taylor Wessing in August 2020.
I secured my Vacation Schemes during my second year of university, whilst working three jobs to meet my financial responsibilities. I have worked since the age of 13 and worked two jobs full-time alongside my studies from the age of 15 to 18. I am the first in my family to go to University and I come from a single parent, low income family and have had to balance my responsibilities at home with younger siblings, working long hours and my academics throughout my education.
I was lucky enough to participate in many Aspiring Solicitors events throughout the application process and was a member of the AS+ Mentoring Programme and AS’ ‘One To Watch List’. I believe AS was absolutely instrumental in me being able to secure a Training Contract, they helped increase my confidence and understanding of the legal sector whilst providing me with a huge amount of support and guidance.
I believe diversity is crucial due to the huge range of skills that people from different backgrounds possess and bring to the legal profession. These skills are essential for law firms to service and retain their ever evolving, diverse client base. I never thought I would be the sort of person a City Firm would want to hire, however, AS taught me that I have many great skills which have developed by overcoming the difficulties I have experienced. I love helping other aspiring lawyers realise this too.
