Profile:

I am an Associate at Mayer Brown and completed my Training Contract at the firm. Since graduating with a degree in History from Cardiff University, I completed the GDL at the University of Law in Guildford, before undertaking the LPC at BPP in Holborn.

Like many History students, I had little idea of a career path post-graduation. It was not until my second year at University that I began to undertake various legal and non-legal work experience opportunities.

I quickly discovered that applying for Training Contracts is immensely competitive. I found the legal careers service at University surprisingly inaccessible to those studying a non-law degree and the volume of information and application process was both daunting and somewhat overwhelming. As many applicants discover, I received multiple rejections which can become disheartening. However, I retain the belief that if you remain determined and persistent, you will achieve your goal.

As a result of work experience and vacation schemes, I had the ability to speak to those in the legal profession. Having such opportunities is a great means of overcoming the difficulties faced by applicants when trying to secure a Training Contract and, in my opinion, a far better way of developing an understanding than through online sources.

I really appreciated all the help and advice that I was given to enable me to become a Trainee at a large city firm. As such, I am very happy to provide assistance to anyone who is considering a career in law and has any queries, however trivial these might appear.
