I am an Associate in the Banking and Finance team at Dentons in Glasgow and deal with a broad range of work in both the real estate and corporate financing spheres. I trained at the firm (Maclay Murray & Spens as it then was) having studied for my undergraduate LLB at the University of Stirling and my Diploma at the University of Glasgow.
I didn’t have a traineeship when I finished my formal education and though I had a breadth of work experience, very little of it was legal. The process of getting a traineeship wasn’t easy and I would hope that my experience of looking for and obtaining a good traineeship could help others in a similar position.
Access to the legal profession through merit is essential, though that shouldn’t always mean the person with the highest grades gets the job. The legal profession should be open to all and it is incredibly important that the profession reflects the diversity of the society it seeks to represent. Everyone already in the profession will have received some support to get where they are and so if you think my experience could help you progress your career please get in touch.
