Trainee solicitor | BCLP LLP
- State school educated
- First generation lawyer
I am a third seat trainee at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. I went to a state school in Bournemouth and then to Staffordshire University to study law. I have always had an interest in law but had no family or friends in the legal profession nor did I study law at A Level or have strong GCSEs. I decided to study law anyway.
I graduated in 2013 without a training contract. I applied for legal roles in Cheshire and successfully secured a role at the Information Commissioners Office. I was a Case Officer before securing a paralegal position within the legal team (the first in the company to work a split role). After two years I applied for paralegal roles in the private sector to gain some experience before applying for training contracts. I secured a role as a Real Estate paralegal with BLP. My paralegal roles helped me gain valuable experience and develop key skills which led to my training contract offer in 2017.
I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to realise their potential, no matter where you start from. It might be harder for some, but if you have the determination to succeed and are prepared to work hard, anything really is possible. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions about life as a paralegal or a trainee.
