Profile:
I’m currently a Legal Director in Addleshaw Goddard’s Corporate and Commercial team, specialising in technology law, outsourcing, intellectual property and general commercial contracts.
I joined the firm in 2022 and, before that, was a senior legal counsel in NatWest Group’s Outsourcing, Technology and IP Legal Team for a number of years, specialising in large-scale innovation and technology contracts.
I originally qualified as a construction disputes solicitor at Pinsent Masons LLP after completing my traineeship at Maclay Murray & Spens LLP (now Dentons) in 2012 and practised as a disputes lawyer for 4 years before deciding that I wanted to instead pursue a career in technology law. I then joined Cognizant, a worldwide provider of information technology services, in 2016 where I provided legal and commercial counsel, specialising in the financial services sector.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde and my Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the then Glasgow Graduate School of Law.
I mention that I changed course in my career because progression isn’t always linear and there’s no one ‘correct’ path to take in life. I’m a huge advocate in believing that you have to be true to yourself and that applies firmly to how you want your career to develop. It’s okay not to be certain about where you want to go and what you want to do. It would have saved a great deal of head scratching, anxiety and depression had I had that advice when I was first starting out.
I’d be delighted to talk to anyone about their own plans or uncertainties about progressing a career in the profession.
