Profile:

I am an Associate at Trowers & Hamlins LLP specialising in projects and construction. My training contract was with Trowers & Hamlins LLP and I qualified in March 2022. I completed my LPC combined with an MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law in 2018.

Obtaining a training contract was challenging for me and my journey was far from traditional. I studied at a non-Russell group university and worked part-time to financially support myself. One of my parents emigrated from Hong Kong and neither of them attended university which meant that they struggled to offer guidance. Having graduated from my law degree without securing a training contract, I chose to build my work experience to increase my chances. I was determined to pursue a career in law which then led me to self-fund my LPC, which I studied part-time during evenings whilst working full-time.

I lacked confidence in my ability to obtain a training contract and wrongly thought that my background was a barrier. By seeking additional support, I discovered Aspiring Solicitors. Aspiring Solicitors played an important role by helping me to understand that my background was not a barrier. It was with hard work and the correct attitude that I was able to achieve my goal.

By being a Professional Ambassador at Aspiring Solicitors, I hope to share my experiences and emphasise that no one should be discouraged from pursuing a career in law. It is common for candidates to believe that a diverse background would hinder them, however I believe that having a diverse background is a strength. Diversity is an area I feel passionate about and candidates should feel empowered as their background is what makes them unique.
