- State school educated
- First generation lawyer
I am a Solicitor in the Financial Services, Disputes and Investigations Team in TLT LLP. My workload consists of a mixture of professional negligence and complex possession cases for large financial institutions.
After completing my A-Levels in a state school in Northern Ireland, I undertook a Law degree at the University of Bristol. As a first generation lawyer, I had no idea what to expect from a Law degree and found the experience to be overwhelming at times! Fortunately, I have a very supportive family who encouraged me to complete the course. I studied the LPC at the University of the West of England before undertaking a two year training contract at Veale Wasbrough Vizards.
Having worked in the legal profession for eight years, I have been struck by the lack of diversity amongst trainee solicitors and think it is a shame that law firms are potentially missing out on recruiting excellent candidates due to them not ticking certain boxes. I am keen to play a part in redressing this issue and am happy to offer support and guidance to anyone who may be considering a career in law.
Please do not write off a legal career if you do not feel that you fit the mold. I find my job very fulfilling and am so glad I listened to a family member who advised me that no great thing ever came out of certainty!
